Introduced as a 2023 model with a turbocharged 2-liter four-cylinder developing 268 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, the new Dodge Hornet stands out even more for the 2024 model year thanks to the addition of an R/T version with plug-in hybrid powertrain.
We’re talking about a turbocharged 1.3-liter four-cylinder engine paired with a 90 kW electric motor and a six-speed automatic transmission. The system’s combined power climbs to 285 horsepower and torque jumps to no less than 383 lb-ft.
That’s not all: a function called PowerShot even provides an additional 25 horsepower on demand. Otherwise, when the time comes to be reasonable and eco-friendly behind the wheel, the 15 kWh battery that powers the electric motor provides a range of 53 km according to Natural Resources Canada.
Not enough to rank in the top 10 plug-in hybrids with the best range, but on the same level as the Hyundai Tucson PHEV.
The 2024 Dodge Hornet R/T starts at $52,690 including freight, preparation and dealer fees. Considering all of these numbers, he qualifies for full government grants of $5,000 federally and $5,000 provincially. Good news.
It’s the same for the R/T Plus version, offered at $58,190. This adds, among other things, a power sunroof, a Harman Kardon audio system with 14 speakers, wireless phone charging and leather-trimmed seats.
It is then possible to graft the Black Top packages ($1,995) for a darkened look or Technology Plus ($2,345) for more driving aids. The first can also be combined with the Track package (total of $4,190) in order to obtain more sportiness both visually and dynamically, in particular with 20-inch wheels and a firmer suspension.
The Car Guide had the chance to try the different versions of the Dodge Hornet last March. You can read our report if you haven’t already. On the other hand, if you would like to enjoy the same powertrains in a sexier and more refined vehicle, turn to the Alfa Romeo Tonale 2024. We also have a detailed test of this Italian novelty not to be missed!
