For the first time in a year, prices are starting to drop in supermarkets. The 20 Hours basket is cheaper in May than in April.

Shopping cost a little less in May than in April 2023, a first for over a year. The 20 Hours basket continued to post a higher price over 12 months: +16% on average. But in May, the total ticket decreased compared to April. Some products, among those that had increased the most, are finally beginning to decline, such as frozen ground beef, or olive oil.

Eggs are down 2.7 points

However, the decline is too timid for many consumers. “Things have gone up again. A pack of eggs I used to take at 3 euros and a few, it’s 5 euros”, laments a father. Entry-level eggs, however, fell slightly, over one month, by -2.7 points. Private labels are mainly affected by the declines.
