The 1,700 lecturers at Laval University threaten to continue their strike on Monday

The four-day strike by some 1,700 lecturers at Laval University ended on Wednesday, but it could resume next Monday, February 26, for a duration of five days this time, if no agreement is reached by now. there.

The conciliation ensured since last month by the Ministry of Labor between representatives of Laval University and those of the Union of Lecturers was not enough to prevent the work stoppage from being triggered last Thursday.

The union attached to the National Federation of Teachers of Quebec, affiliated with the CSN, has a ten-day strike mandate to be exercised at the appropriate time.

Another day is set for a General Assembly to be held on March 11, upon returning from spring break.

It is mainly a disagreement on the salary issue which prevents an agreement allowing the renewal of the union members’ collective agreement. The normative clauses have been fairly settled, after several months of negotiation.

Before the start of the four-day strike, the union had warned that all educational activities would be interrupted, including the delivery of courses, student supervision, handing out grades as well as exams and evaluations.

According to Laval University management, 67% of students registered for the winter session have at least one course offered by a lecturer.
