Thanks to journalist Stéphanie Marin for her article “No prison at home for a man who punched his pregnant partner” published on April 7, 2024.
I could never have believed that in 2024 we still have so far to go when it comes to domestic violence. Thanks to the transmission of information, we learn of the ordeal experienced by this woman and her children. We also learn that the violence targets her again and is also aimed at her new partner.
We also learn that the man who is accused of assault, criminal harassment and illegal possession of a firearm will be sentenced to 18 months in prison to be served in the community and 2 years’ probation. It’s simply incredible.
This journalist, by disseminating this information, was able to highlight the need to continue raising awareness about such a scourge involving a woman who is trying to take control of her life while her ex-partner tells her that he is not afraid of the law.
Although there is a long way to go, we appreciate the fact that this judgment was appealed and that the Court of Appeal corrected it.
