Canal+, a subsidiary of Vivendi, announced on Friday September 2 that it would give up broadcasting the free channels of the TF1 group (TF1, TMC, TFX, TF1 Séries Films and LCI) in mainland France due to commercial requirements deemed too high by the subsidiary of Bouygues. In a statement, the encrypted channel denounced “unfounded and unreasonable demands” of TF1 as part of the renewal of the distribution contract between the two parties.

The TF1 group had on its side “lamented” this decision, while the audiences of its channels are directly affected. The conflict also took a political turn, when the Minister of Culture asked Canal + to “to re-establish” the broadcasting of the Bouygues group’s channels on its TNT Sat offer.
