Two months and two days. This is how long the quarrel between TF1 and Canal Plus lasted. A new distribution agreement has finally been found. Since Monday, November 7, live and replay from TF1, TMC, LCI, TFX and TF1 Séries Films have been broadcast again on Canal packages.
The approach of the Football World Cup and the arrival at the head of TF1 of Rodolphe Belmer, ex-director of the encrypted channel, have made it possible to unblock the situation which has penalized 5.5 million French households since September 2. Gérald-Brice Viret, the director general of Canal+ France, in charge of antennas and programs, is the media guest of Célyne Baÿt-Darcourt.
“It’s good news“he rejoiced as the TF1 channels have been broadcast again by the channels and Canal platforms since this Monday morning, 9:15 a.m..”All’s well That ends well“, he added : “This is good news for Canal+ viewers This is good news especially for TF1, which will be able to broadcast the World Cup on all of our platforms (…) We wanted to reach an agreement with our friends at TF1. We no longer had the right to broadcast. You have to understand that we were at the end of the contract and if we broadcast them, we were out of the law“, he insisted.
After two months of conflict Gérald-Brice Viret assures that he has not noticed a leak of subscribers: “Our Canal+ subscribers are not unsubscribed because we did not offer TF1. There were no unsubscriptions because we don’t subscribe to TF1, we subscribe to Canal+“, he underlines.
On franceinfo, the boss also exclusively announced the broadcast date of Top Gun: Maverick and reveals that it was… Tom Cruise himself who chose her.
