(Washington) George P. Bush, grandson and nephew of the two former presidents and the latest member of the dynasty, created a surprise overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday by taking an option to become Attorney General of Texas.

The son of a Mexican-born mother and former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, he claims to support former President Donald Trump, a leader from whom his uncle George W. Bush has seriously distanced himself.
The 45-year-old promises to “finish the wall” of Donald Trump on the southern border of the United States, or to “fight electoral fraud”, a reference to the accusations repeatedly denied of irregularities in the presidential election of 2020.
He said Wednesday it was “time for the next generation of conservative leaders.”
Yet it was his rival Ken Paxton, the current attorney general, who had received the support of Donald Trump this summer, despite several ongoing legal cases. Ken Paxton came first in the primary which opposed them on Tuesday, without however obtaining the necessary majority. An election at the end of May will decide between them.
George P. Bush, currently elected to another powerful office in Texas, is the third generation of the Bush family to enter politics in the great southern state. George W. Bush served as Governor of Texas from 1995 to 2000 before becoming the 43and President of the United States.
It was his grandfather George HW Bush, working in the oil industry, who settled the family in Texas before becoming elected, then the 41and President of the United States from 1989 to 1993.
