(Washington) Texas has started erecting its own “wall” – huge steel bars – on the border with Mexico, its governor, Republican Greg Abbott said on Saturday, lambasting the Biden administration which it claims did not ‘not enough against illegal immigration.
“Texas is taking what is truly an unprecedented step by any state” in the country, Abbott said at a press conference, namely to build “a wall on our border to secure and safeguard the sovereignty of the United States as well as our own state ”.
A measure “necessary for one and only one reason: the Biden administration has failed to do its job,” he said from Rio Grande City, in front of a crane and steel bars.
The governor, who has ambitions well beyond the borders of his state, denounced the “deadly consequences” of the policies of Democratic President Joe Biden.
“This border wall that you see behind us is a replica of the border wall that President Trump erected. Same material, same concept, ”he added.
The construction of an “anti-migrant” wall on the border between Mexico and the United States was one of Donald Trump’s main campaign promises for the 2016 presidential election.
Long stretches were built under Mr. Trump, then work was halted under Joe Biden.
Mr. Abbott assured Fox News that his state has been able to “move this fast” in construction because the barrier is being erected on land under Texas jurisdiction or owned by landowners “who are” have […] fed up with the Biden administration ”.
The latter is strongly criticized for its management of illegal immigration: the left reproaches the president for his harshness, the right conspires what it considers to be laxity causing a migratory air intake.
