Huge disappointment for Remco Evenepoel. The Belgian rider, leader of the general classification of the Giro 2023, was forced to retire after testing positive for Covid-19 on Sunday May 14. “It is with a heavy heart that I announce that I have to leave the Giro after a routine Covid-19 test which turned out to be positive”, he wrote in a press release shared on his social networks on Sunday evening. A news that comes just a few hours after the arrival of the ninth stage on which he won, and recovered the pink jersey of leader of the general classification.
