End of the chapter? Salah Abdeslam, the main accused in the trial of the attacks of November 13, 2015 who tested positive for Covid-19 at the end of December, is able to appear at the hearing scheduled for Thursday, the National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office (Pnat) announced on Wednesday January 5.
“From a health point of view, nothing is against its extraction on Thursday, January 6, 2022 for the resumption of the hearing”, added the Pnat in a press release, citing the president of the special assize court, Jean-Louis Périès.
The Pnat press release does not specify whether Salah Abdeslam tested negative on a new PCR test. According to the Pnat, however, additional medical expertise should take place on Wednesday.
While a first expertise carried out on Monday concluded that Salah Abdeslam was “fit both medically and healthily to attend hearings of the Assize Court”, his lawyer had maintained Tuesday that his client was not able to appear.
The only surviving member of the jihadist commandos who killed 130 and injured hundreds in Paris and Saint-Denis in November 2015, Salah Abdeslam, who has not appeared at the hearing since November 25, has been tested positive for Covid-19 on December 27.
The accused is being held in Fleury-Mérogis (Essonne) prison, south of Paris, where several sources of contamination have been detected recently. In solitary confinement, the prisoner can receive his lawyers and works alongside guards on a daily basis.
