Tested: Galaxy Book2 Pro | Nomad to do everything

With the Galaxy Book2 Pro, Samsung delivers a light, fast, AMOLED-enabled laptop that does all the essential work. But despite its name, it’s better suited to those on the go than the pros.

WE love

On the design side, Samsung has relied on finesse for its Galaxy Book2 Pro. This 1.11kg device is 11.7mm thick when closed, thanks mostly to a gorgeous 15.6-inch AMOLED display that’s barely two sheets thick. This 1920 x 1080 display delivers vivid images with 500 nits capability and perfect blacks.

Very thin and light, therefore, but without compromising on the quality of the image displayed on the screen.

The model we tested is equipped with an Intel processor of 12e generation, the i5-1240P clocked at 1.70 GHz, 8 GB of RAM with a 256 GB SSD hard drive. We feel its agility from the start and calibration tests have confirmed it.

Getting the newest MacBook Pro so hot, at least for processor power, is quite a feat. We note here that in terms of graphics processing, with its Iris Xe graphics card, the Galaxy Book2 Pro is not as dominant. We will come back to this, but its capacities are more than sufficient to simultaneously and quickly open heavy applications, watch videos and hold videoconferences.

In this regard, the other strong point of this laptop is the autonomy of its battery capable of providing up to 21 hours of video streaming. In more intensive use mode, combining web browsing, file transfers and videoconferencing, we got 11 hours, which is more than decent and ensures a full day’s work.

The other instructive test is the write and read speed of its SSD drive, a Samsung PM991 as it should be. Here again, according to FlashBench, the performance is there, with a maximum reading speed of 2308 Mb/s and writing of 1110 Mb/s.

On the connection side, we were generous with an HDMI output, two USB-C sockets, including a Thunderbolt 4, and even a USB-A 3.2 socket which will save your life if you don’t have your adapter for your old peripherals. . There is also a 3.5 mm socket in which you can plug headphones and microphone.

Authentication is done with a fingerprint reader integrated into the power button. We appreciated the software stability of the Windows 11 Home operating system to which Samsung has added a few house touches. Among these, the update manager is particularly well designed. Smartswitch and Quickshare, on the other hand, offer communication possibilities with other Samsung devices.

The GalaxyBook 2 Pro is also compatible with WiFi 6e and is equipped with Dolby Atmos speakers from AKG.

We love less

Facial recognition with Windows Hello is not offered as the 1080p FHD front camera does not support it.

Forget any heavy editing application or 100GB AAA video games. This laptop can’t handle them, even at reduced frames-per-second levels for the big games we installed.

At $1,599.99, we’re not dealing with an affordable device here.

One buys ?

The customer who will get the most satisfaction from a laptop computer is the student, the traveler or the worker who has to travel. It is quite exceptional to offer a good performance with a magnificent screen, a keyboard with a good touch and generous inputs for such a small weight.

For more graphic performance, it is better to pass.
