The six-time Olympic medalist was in fine form, winning the 100 meters at the Diamond League meeting in Oslo last week with a season-best time of 10.05 seconds.

“I’m obviously quite disappointed not to be able to race at home in front of the Canadian amateurs in Langley. I hope I can get back to training fairly quickly and prepare for the rest of the season,” De Grasse said in a statement.

De Grasse is the latest of several top athletes to retire from the Canadian championships in Langley, British Columbia.

Olympic decathlon champion Damian Warner, distance runners Moh Ahmed, Justyn Knight and Gabriela DeBues-Stafford, and Paralympic star Brent Lakatos have withdrawn from the competition which begins on Wednesday.

The World Championships in Athletics will be held July 15-24 in Eugene, Oregon.
