Test bench | The competition of the Genesis GV70 Electrified

Novelty. This is the watchword in this category. The Genesis GV70 Electrified faces the “small” new ones that are the BMW iX, the Cadillac Lyriq and the Mercedes EQE SUV.

BMW iX

Price: from $82,000

Unlike the Genesis proposal, the BMW iX was designed from scratch. No component of the thermal era has been retained in the design of this vehicle which, with the exception of the grille with double nostrils, bears no resemblance to the BMWs of yesteryear. Therefore, it is necessary to plan a certain period of adaptation before identifying and mastering controls and accessories. From this point of view, the Genesis is less confusing. BMW offers an entry-level model (40) which compares favorably to the GV70 Electrified in terms of price, but not autonomy (322 km for the Bavarian). From then on, you have to turn to the iX 50 for better performance, but the note is much more robust ($101,043).

Cadillac Lyriq

Price: from $69,798

Compared to the Genesis, the Lyriq has a more modern architecture, offers a very efficient semi-autonomous driving device and is displayed at a more reasonable starting price. You should know, however, that unlike the Genesis, the Cadillac offers a two-wheel drive (propulsion) version. To compare the Lyriq to the GV70 Electrified, it is better to turn to the AWD version, whose total power of the two engines (500 hp and 450 lb-ft of torque, according to the brand’s preliminary data) outclasses that of the GV70 Electrified. Benefiting from a more powerful battery, the Cadillac also promises a range of 494 km, according to the agency RnCan (Natural Resources Canada).

Mercedes EQE SUV

Price: from $94,900

Revealed to the world last year, the EQE SUV will hit the Canadian market in the coming weeks. Despite its accumulator (90.6 kWh) and its less powerful motors, the EQE SUV promises a range comparable to that of the Genesis (407 km, according to RnCan). The Mercedes will impress especially in terms of interior presentation with its (very) large screen printed on the dashboard and its armchairs as comfortable as those found in its living room. On the other hand, the German brand charges a high price to taste these sweets.
