Test bench | Competition from the Audi Q8 e-tron

They are not given. The Audi Q8 e-tron, BMW iX, Cadillac Lyriq and Mercedes EQE SUV are competing to attract customers who are always asking for more. Let’s see their peculiarities.

BMW iX

Price: from $79,990

Unlike Audi’s proposal, the BMW iX was designed from scratch. No component of the thermal era has been retained in the design of this vehicle which, with the exception of the grille with double nostrils, bears no resemblance to the BMWs of yesteryear. Therefore, it is necessary to plan a certain period of adaptation before identifying and mastering controls and accessories. From this point of view, the Audi is less confusing. BMW offers an entry-level model (40), but it is the versions (50 and 60) that measure up best against the Q8 e-tron. For those who like to drive, the Audi offers a more stimulating drive than that of the iX, which tends to isolate us too much from the road. The iX M60 corrects the situation, but the note is more full-bodied ($121,750).

Cadillac Lyriq

Price: from $70,597

The stock of Cadillac Lyriq 2023 is already sold out.

Bad luck, the 2023 stock of the Cadillac Lyriq is already sold out. The buyer must therefore register for the 2024 model, which will show its grille next spring. Compared to the Q8 e-tron, the Lyriq has a more modern architecture, offers a very efficient semi-autonomous driving device and is displayed at a more reasonable starting price. You should know, however, that unlike the Audi, Cadillac offers a two-wheel drive (propulsion) version. This one, with a lower power than that of the Audi, is powered by a battery of also lower capacity (102 kWh). To compare the Lyriq to the Q8 e-tron, it is better to turn to the AWD version, whose total power of the two engines (500 hp, according to the brand’s preliminary data) compares very favorably.

Mercedes EQE SUV

Price: from $110,000 (estimate)

The Mercedes EQE SUV will enter the Canadian market within the next year.

Revealed to the world only a few weeks ago, the EQE SUV will enter the Canadian market within the next year. Despite its accumulator (90.6 kWh) and its less powerful engines (288 hp), the EQE SUV promises acceleration that is as straightforward and a range comparable to that of the Audi. The two rivals also find themselves tied in terms of recharging: this will be done up to 170 kW in direct current. The Mercedes will also impress in terms of interior presentation with its (very) large screen printed on the dashboard and its seats as comfortable as those found in its living room.
