A TikToker is calling out Tesla car owners, saying the vehicle they may have paid six figures for can now be had for much less.
In a recent video, Cheese (@thankucheese) specifically attacks Tesla’s Model S Plaid and claims that people who bought a Tesla in the last three years have “screwed themselves financially.”
His video has been viewed more than 37,000 times.
According to him, prices for 2021 models today cost around 70,000 to 80,000 US dollars, or between 95,000 to 108,000 Canadian dollars.
“When these Plaids cars came out, they were selling for around $150,000 (C$203,000),” pointed out Cheese, who mentions that he is a car salesman in his TikTok bio.
“Honestly, Tesla hurt its customers by releasing the new models and lowering their prices,” he added.
Cheese said he may never buy a Tesla again, calling the auto market “volatile.”
Reuters reported in 2023 that sales of electric vehicles in the United States had increased, but that Tesla, which once dominated the sector, had seen its market share decline from 62% to just over half of the market.
Commenters largely agreed with Cheese’s view, and some were not shy about expressing their disdain for Tesla.
“iPad on wheels, what are you waiting for? Better to walk than drive on electricity for the rest of my life.”
“Teslas are just plain cheap now. I just looked at a few and was surprised how much a low mileage Model Y costs.”
“Elon was unfortunately wrong…logically, if new cars are cheaper than used cars, the market will collapse.”
