Tesla Cybertruck: deliveries this summer, mass production in 2024

Will the unicorn that has become the Tesla Cybertruck finally see the light of day this year? The market launch of the production model has been pushed back a few times since the unveiling of the prototype in November 2019, from fall 2021 to summer 2022 and then to summer 2023.

Discussing the company’s latest financial results this week, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said he expects production of the controversial electric pickup truck to actually begin this summer, without being more specific.

However, seeking to temper the ardor of customers eagerly waiting to pick it up, Musk hinted that only a small number of copies will leave the factory in Austin, Texas, in 2023. “I’m trying always not to put too much emphasis on the start of production, because it’s always very slow to start, he said.

According to him, mass production will not begin before 2024, but again, no more details.

To date, over 1.5 million people have reportedly made a deposit to reserve their copy of the Cybertruck. It is currently possible to do so on the Tesla Canada website for $150. Needless to say, US customers will be prioritized, so those north of the border will have to wait at least until next year, in all likelihood.

Somewhere between now and the start of production this summer (unless another postponement!), Tesla should reveal the final model of the Cybertruck, then confirm its specs and pricing.

A little over a year ago, Musk announced that a new version with four motors (one for each wheel) would roll out of the Texas factory first. It will replace the three-motor version originally promised, the one with a price tag of US$69,900 and a range of around 800 kilometres. We guess that the price will be much higher, but remains to be seen for autonomy.
