Terrebonne | Sports coach and teacher arrested for several sex crimes

A sports coach and high school teacher who trained “several sports teams” was arrested Tuesday by the police in Terrebonne, in the Lanaudière region. Several charges have been filed against Bryan Mayer, 52, including sexual assault.

According to the Terrebonne Intermunicipal Police Service, which arrested him on Tuesday in collaboration with the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), Mr. Mayer appeared within hours of his arrest at the Saint-Jérôme courthouse.

He currently faces a total of 11 counts, including sexual assault, sexual interference, invitation to sexual touching, voyeurism and criminal harassment. In the police denunciation, of which The Press had a copy, he is also accused of having made one of his alleged victims take “a poison” or a “destructive substance”. All of his alleged victims are “underage persons”.

The alleged facts would have occurred “between 2006 and today”, that is to say over a period of approximately 17 years, affirms the police of Terrebonne. The accused is a teacher at the secondary level, but also “worked in several schools during the period of the offenses”, note the authorities.

They are also concerned that Mayer “has coached several sports teams in which he befriended young players”. “Once the bond of trust was established, he then carried out acts of sexual abuse. In addition to having been involved in the sports associations of Lanaudière, Mr. Mayer also acted as a volunteer in several youth spheres of his community, ”explains the police.

Other victims wanted

His investigators believe that “many minors may have been in contact with Bryan Mayer over the years”. They therefore say they have “reason to believe that other young minors may have been victims of similar acts, from 2006 to the present day”.

Given the seriousness of the case, a “serial crime investigation management structure (GECS)”, coordinated by the Sûreté du Québec, was deployed in this case.

It is a unified command structure “in which Quebec police services work in partnership to quickly identify crimes committed by predators and to arrest them”, recall the authorities. “This provincial coordination therefore makes it possible to pool police resources and aims to better protect victims,” it adds.

An investigation is still ongoing. Anyone with relevant information on Mr. Mayer is invited to contact the Terrebonne police at 450-471-4121 or via the “Échec au crime” line at 1-800-711-1800, mentioning file number TRB- 220 510-018.
