Terrebonne | Police operation ended in a secondary school, an individual arrested

The police operation launched early in the afternoon at Armand-Corbeil secondary school in Terrebonne is over, announced the region’s intermunicipal police service. An individual was arrested.

“The Police Department confirms that Armand-Corbeil high school is secure,” authorities announced at 2:30 p.m. “There is no longer any threat to the students or staff of the school. The intervention led to the arrest of an individual who will be interviewed by our criminal investigations office. »

Social workers are on site to meet the students. “Thus, their exit will be gradual and could therefore take longer than usual,” warn the police.

Earlier, the Police Department announced that it was looking for a “potentially dangerous” individual who could be inside the school. “A “code black” containment measure was triggered preventively at the request of the Police Department in order to optimize searches. »

Authorities say no shots were fired and the students are safe. The alert was given around 1 p.m. and the students were confined to the classrooms.

The police service says it works “in concert” with the school service center “in order to inform and reassure parents.”

They received a notice from the Affluents School Service Center informing them of the situation. “Please do not travel to the school and wait for further communications which will be sent to you by text and email,” it is stated in the message.

However, parents decided to go there, confirms Marilyne Archambault, who lives very close to the school. Several dozen worried parents are currently in front and behind the school and are being kept away by police and paramedics who are blocking access to the building. “The police don’t tell us anything, but we know that if there had been gunshots, we wouldn’t be able to stand so close to the school on the sidewalk,” she told us on the phone.

Mme Archambault says he was unable to communicate with his son, a secondary school student. “The students are confined and are not allowed to use their phones. »

“We are told that they are safe,” adds Mme Archambault. “But for me, my son will be safe when he is at home. »
