Jean-François Pesez specializes in the technique of sigillated earth, a technique dating from the Gallo-Roman era but used in a modern and artistic way and also known under the name of slip.
The slip is a thin coating based on diluted clay (colored or not), applied to a ceramic part to modify its natural color, to give it a smooth appearance or to obtain a base coat with specific physicochemical properties reacting with enamel.
Jean-François Pesez uses, for his creations, about fifteen varnishes of engobes. There can be up to 6 layers of smoothed sigillea on each piece which is then fired and smoked.
He describes himself as a craftsman “cache-pot-tier d’art” and has created the concept of a two- or three-part flowerpot, a flowerpot that opens, a bit like a a puzzle or puzzle.
All of Jean-François Pesez’s creations (turned pieces, sculptures, pots and planters) are unique pieces.
