Several hundred people took part in the silent march organised on Tuesday 30 July in Toulouse in Haute-Garonne for Maïky, killed on Thursday 25 July by a police officer after refusing to comply, reports France Bleu Occitanie. Five days after his death, the silent march was organised at the call of the young man’s relatives. The gathering was not declared to the prefecture, indicates France Bleu Occitanie. Tensions quickly arose with the CRS present on site. Demonstrators shouted “Murderers, the police!”with the gypsy flag flying in the procession.

Several hundred people, including the victim’s mother, marched between Jean-Jaurès and François-Verdier early in the afternoon. Some of the participants wore white t-shirts with the words “Justice for Maïky, killed for nothing.”

The 28-year-old man, from the travelling community, succumbed to his injuries after being shot in the head by a police officer while he was driving his vehicle in Fenouillet (Haute-Garonne), after refusing to comply. He succumbed to his injuries in hospital and nearly 200 people gathered in front of the Toulouse University Hospital during the night. Two police officers from the Fenouillet brigade fired “without knowing which projectile hit the driver”Toulouse prosecutor Samuel Vuelta-Simon told France Bleu. Expertise is still underway.

The Toulouse public prosecutor announced on Tuesday, July 30, the opening of a judicial investigation for aggravated refusal to comply, intentional violence with a weapon against persons in authority concerning the victim, and intentional violence with a weapon by a person in authority resulting in death without the intention of causing it concerning the military. An investigating judge will be appointed to conduct the investigations.
