A69 motorway: tensions between law enforcement and activists
A69 motorway: tensions between law enforcement and activists – (France 2)
Activists who oppose the A69 motorway project continue to occupy the trees on Friday February 16. The day before, they were evacuated from a ZAD by the police.
Perched in makeshift shelters, demonstrators want to prevent the felling of trees on Friday February 16. Some have been camping for three months and want to hold a siege. At their feet, mobile gendarmes prevent their resupply. The face-to-face continues between opponents of the A69 motorway and the police. Thursday, February 15, a ZAD, a zone to be defended, was the site of tensions, with stone throwing against tear gas grenades.
Fifteen minutes of travel saved
The police evacuated dozens of demonstrators on the ground, which was expected by some local residents, who were hampered in their movements. Environmental defenders are worried. “It makes me sad to see that this area is considered a major ecological issue and that tear gas is being sent”, says Thomas Brail, of the tree monitoring group. This wood is located on the route of the A69 motorway, 53 km long, between Toulouse (Haute-Garonne) and Castres (Tarn), which should save 15 minutes of travel time. This highway divides the population.
