Agricultural Show: tensions and demonstrations on the eve of the opening – (France 2)

Several agricultural unions organized demonstrations in the streets of Paris on Friday February 23, on the eve of the opening of the Agricultural Show. Farmers want to be heard.

Friday February 23 in the evening, the leaders of the FNSEA met at Porte de Versailles in Paris, where the Agricultural Show will be held on Saturday. Breeders, producers and market gardeners, determined to make themselves heard by the Head of State, came in convoy by the hundreds. “We hope that he will be present on Saturday and that he will be able to answer us”indicates Charlotte Vassant, vegetable producer and president of the FDSEA of Aisne.

Do not obstruct the arrival of the public

Rural Coordination demonstrators took over the Paris ring road and the streets of the capital with their tractors. Another procession, led by the FNSEA and the Young Farmers, also entered Paris. The uneasiness is perceptible in the aisles of the Salon, a few hours before the opening. A breeder plans not to greet Emmanuel Macron. Farmers want to be heard, but not to interfere with the public. “People want quality, we are capable of doing it, but we have to pay for it”says Michel Ducasse, breeder of Prim’ Holstein cows in the Landes.
