The European Union accuses Belarus of instrumentalizing migrants. Thousands of people are massed at the Polish border in front of the police determined to stop them.
Along the eastern border of the European Union, there are officially 3,000 to 4,000 migrants, but probably more. In front of the barbed wire that separates Belarus from Poland, migrant camps are occupied mainly by Kurds from the Middle East. In this wooded region, they suffer from cold and hunger and have only one goal: “Go to Germany, not to Poland”.
But the border remains hermetic. For several days, the Polish army, deployed in large numbers, has prohibited access to its territory. For Warsaw, Belarus and its president are responsible for the fate of migrants. “Lukashenko started hostilities, but Russian President Vladimir Putin is the sponsor of these acts. It shows his determination to rebuild the Russian Empire.”, said Prime Minister Matheusz Morawiecky. Ally and protege of Russia, Alexander Lukashenko replied: “We know where we belong, but neither will we kneel”. A message addressed to the European Union, which accuses this disputed leader of instrumentalizing the migrant crisis to better avenge the sanctions adopted after the repression in his country.
