Tense but constructive public meeting on the Miotte district building project in Belfort

The meeting had started badly, with the presentation of the project by the real estate developer, which aroused strong reactions. Some residents accuse him of “disfigure” the district, with this 17-meter high residential and office building, located on a wasteland, previously occupied by the Establishment for integration into employment. This land having been sold to the real estate group, it is not possible for the city to oppose to the project, validated by the Architect of French buildings, Gaël Noblanc.

The fifty or so residents present are worried about the impact of this modern building with roof terraces on their daily lives: circulation, water network and above all aesthetics of the neighborhood. Antonio Mendes, manager and founder of Alliance Groupe Immobilier claims that his project only occupies a quarter of the total area that it could legally occupy, and that it includes one floor less than what was originally planned. . What does not calm the opponents of the project so much. “You don’t live there, we live there”, says one of them.

Meetings to modify the project

The mayor, Damien Meslot, animates the meeting and tries somehow to calm the debates. It proposes in particular that four residents participate in meetings with the architect and the developer, to determine if developments are possible, in particular to improve the aesthetic appearance and avoid vis-à-vis, one of the great fears of residents. The town hall will also carry out tests to try to make traffic and water drainage more fluid, two problems raised by residents.

Antonio Mendes says he is open to discussing the roof and the installation of a plant barrier to protect homes. This does not completely satisfy Claudine, who will nevertheless participate in these meetings: “The urban policy is precisely to eliminate large complexes, and here we are in the process of creating them, in a residential area. I do not understand.”
