Auger-Aliassime thus obtained these titles for a second consecutive season, after notably going from 11e rank in January 2022 sixth at the end of the year — his career best on the ATP Tour.
His outstanding season began in Sydney, Australia, where he helped Team Canada claim the ATP Cup trophy. In February, he collected his first ATP singles title in Rotterdam, then expanded his collection by winning three consecutive tournaments in Florence, Antwerp and Basel.
Along the way, the 22-year-old tennis player was part of the Laver Cup champion team in September and took part in the ATP Finals in November.
Auger-Aliassime capped off the year with a stellar performance in Malaga, Spain, winning all four games to lead Team Canada to the first Davis Cup title in team history.
For her part, Fernandez picked up the MVP and singles player of the year honors for the third time in her career.
In 2022, she successfully defended her title in Monterrey, Mexico, and reached the quarter-finals at the French Open, knocking out the 12e world Belinda Bencic and the 23e Amanda Anisimova.
She was also an important part of the Canadian team that swept Latvia at the Billie Jean King Cup in April, and also defended Canada’s colors at the Billie Jean King Cup Finals in Glasgow, UK.
