Dabrowski, who was paired with Mexican Giuliana Olmos for the occasion, now has 11 women’s doubles championships in her career, not to mention her two Grand Slam titles in mixed doubles, obtained at Roland-Garros (2017) and at the Internationals of Australia (2018).

In Madrid, Dabrowski was finally crowned, she who had been a finalist in 2019 as well as in 2021. The 2020 tournament had also been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I love this city and this is actually my third consecutive final here, so you should never despair,” Dabrowski said in a statement sent by Tennis Canada. My partner [Giuliana] and I had a bit of a slow start to the season, but we held on, worked hard and [cette semaine]we played an excellent tournament.”

After Montreal…

For Dabrowski, 30, it was also a third WTA 1000 category doubles title, having previously lifted the trophy in Montreal last year and Miami in 2017.

In Saturday’s final in Spain, Dabrowski and Olmos edged third seeds Demi Schuurs and Desirae Krawcyk 7-6(1), 5-7, 10-7. The Canadian and the Mexican were the second favorite pair of the tournament to win.
