It was ten years ago today: December 29, 2013, Michael Schumacher was the victim of a very serious skiing accident in Méribel (Savoie), five days before celebrating his 45th birthday. Suffering from serious head trauma, the German pilot underwent emergency surgery, but fell into a coma for several months. He was released on June 16, 2014, and left Grenoble hospital to continue rehabilitation at the CHUV in Lausanne for three months. For almost ten years, Michael Schumacher’s daily life has been kept secret by his family, and only a few relatives are authorized by his children, Mick and Gina Maria, and his wife, Corinna, to visit him. This is particularly the case of French businessman Jean Todt and his wife Michelle Yeohwho recently revealed that the soon-to-be 55-year-old athlete is getting better and better, without saying more about his state of health, to respect the wishes of the Schumacher clan.
Near The TeamJean Todt revealed at the beginning of December that he regularly visited his friend, with whom he managed to share a few special moments: “Michael is here, so I don’t miss him. He’s not the Michael before. He’s different and is beautifully cared for by his wife and children who protect him. His life is different and I have the privilege to be able to share moments with him. That’s all there is to say. Unfortunately, fate struck him ten years ago and he is no longer the Michael we knew in F1“ soberly explained the man who was his boss at Ferrari for ten years, before becoming one of his best friends.
Engine noises to stimulate memories
This Thursday, December 28, 2023, the German media Bild made new revelations on the state of health of Michael Schumacher, and the news is more than reassuring: to stimulate the athlete’s cerebral capacities, reduced to nothing for ten years, doctors and the family were keen to take him for a car ride… Something he hasn’t done for a decade now, and which he had obviously forgotten! He was taken into a car to stimulate him with the engine noises he had known during his career., hoping to remind him of his past. Installed in a Mercedes AMG, the fifty-year-old was surrounded by his family for this little therapeutic getaway.
Fifteen doctors assist him daily
The Bild newspaper gave other elements concerning the difficult daily life of Michael Schumacher. If the rumors suggesting that the Schumacher family was ruined by the daily care required by the pilot’s condition were firmly denied by Jean Todt, Bild reaffirms, however, that more than fifteen doctors, nurses and physiotherapists are at Michael Schumacher’s daily bedside, in his family villa located on the shores of Lake Geneva in Switzerland. Care which therefore costs the family a small fortune, but which will hardly ruin it. Indeed, just before his accident, the fortune amassed by Michael Schumacher during his automotive career was estimated at more than 600 million euros according to Spanish media Cuatro.
