Global Affairs Canada says 10 more people with ties to Canada were able to cross the border from Gaza into Egypt on Monday.
No other Canadians were on the published list of people allowed to cross the border on Monday, but not all Canadian citizens, permanent residents and their eligible family members on Friday’s list were able to cross the border when it reopened on Sunday.
On Sunday, 234 Canadians, permanent residents and their eligible family members traveled from Gaza to Egypt as the crossing reopened after a two-day closure.
There were 266 names with ties to Canada on Friday’s list from the General Authority for Crossings and Borders, which, in coordination with the Egyptian and Israeli governments, determines who is allowed to cross the Rafah border crossing .
Global Affairs Canada says it remains in contact with more than 250 Canadians, permanent residents and eligible family members in the war-torn territory.
The war, now in its sixth week, began on October 7 when Hamas militants stormed into Israel, killing around 1,200 people and taking around 240 others hostage to Gaza.
Israel has responded with daily air and ground strikes, and Hamas-led health authorities say the death toll in the territory has exceeded 11,000.
