Ten mayors of Seine-Saint-Denis are organizing a gathering on Monday April 22 at 6 p.m. in the Quatre-Chemins district, straddling the two municipalities of Aubervilliers and Pantin, to express their fed up with traffic in all kinds, including the sale of cigarettes on the street.
The towns of Bagnolet, Bobigny, La Courneuve, Les Lilas, Montreuil, Pantin, Aubervilliers, Noisy-le-Sec, Saint-Ouen-sur-Seine and Romainville are uniting against trafficking which “eating our neighborhoods” and who are “source of serious nuisance” for residents and traders, according to a joint press release published on April 3.
The Quatre-chemins crossroads is located only 800 meters from Parc de la Villette. It is the scene of numerous thefts and attacks, sometimes with knives, according to local elected officials. The sale of contraband cigarettes “generates a clear worsening of problems of public security, vandalism, inconvenience and occupation of public space”it is written in the press release.
The mayors are demanding in particular “the creation of an anti-trafficking brigade of the national police at the level of the department based on the model of the specialized Parisian investigation brigades” And “specific reinforcements of national police officers to ensure a regular presence at the main trafficking sites” of the municipalities concerned.
