Ten children drowned in the sinking of a boat in Rwanda

Ten children died of drowning after a boat sank in a river in southern Rwanda on Monday, police said on Wednesday, who also announced that they had arrested a man present with them, suspected of making them work.

According to the authorities, a total of 13 children, aged between 11 and 15, were on this boat hired by a construction worker to take them to unload tiles across the Nyabarongo river in Muhanga district, west of the capital Kigali.

“Ten corpses were recovered from the river (…). The rescue operation is over today” on Wednesday, police spokesman John Bosco Kabera told AFP, without detailing the exact circumstances of the accident.
