The three swimming pools of Agglo 2B will close their pools from Saturday December 3 to Friday February 3, 2023. In a press release published on Thursday October 20, the community assures that this will allow it to save between 320,000 and 360,000 euros. This temporary closure comes during a period (December to February) when attendance is the lowest of the year in the aquatic centers but when energy consumption is the highest.
It’s going to be a real break, as people were already struggling to come back after the two Covid years” Sébastien Chevalier
Reached by telephone, Sébastien Chevalier, the president of the Cercle des Nageurs du Bocage Bressuirais club, said he was very disappointed with this closure, even if he fully understands the economic issues. He is worried about swimmers who practice in competition, nearly a third of club members, for whom training is compromised. The Cercle des Nageurs du Bocage Bressuirais also employs three employees, who could be put on technical unemployment.
Sébastien Chevalier hopes that the aquatic centers will not be the only ones to be impacted and that “savings and sobriety will be played out on all facilities, whether cultural, sporting or even at city level”.
