The Élysée is once again pulling out all the stops, Monday May 13, at the Palace of Versailles. Emmanuel Macron and several members of his government receive 180 foreign and French bosses for the Choose France summit. The aim of the event, of which this is the seventh edition: to try to convince these business leaders to invest in France

Strengthening the attractiveness of France, compared to its European neighbors, has been Emmanuel Macron’s desire since January 2018, when he launched the first edition of the Choose France summit. The head of state wants to highlight the business-friendly reforms that have just been adopted, such as tax cuts or a simplification of the labor code. The staging is careful, with a dinner in the Hall of Mirrors at the Palace of Versailles and the opportunity for the bosses to meet around fifteen government ministers of the time. The objective is to say directly to the world’s major leaders: invest with us, it’s easier here than elsewhere!

The formula has not really changed since 2018. Only the date of the event has changed. Choose France took place just before the World Economic Forum in Davos until 2020. It has since been postponed to May. The setting remains the same, namely the Palace of Versailles where the bosses of Coca-Cola, leaders of IBM, the IT giant, Amazon and even AstraZeneca are expected this year.

Beyond lunch, round tables on artificial intelligence or quantum computing, direct discussions with ministers and even the head of state are planned. Emmanuel Macron plans face-to-face meetings with some bosses, to convince them to come to France with their strategic projects, explains the Élysée.

For 2024, Choose France must result in more than 15 billion euros of investments in the country, for a total of 56 projects, indicates the Élysée. The executive affirms that it is an exchange of the kind which made it possible in 2023 to obtain the installation in Dunkirk in the North of a gigafactory to manufacture electric batteries from the Taiwanese Pro Logium. More generally, 122 investment projects have been announced since the creation of the Choose France summit, according to the magazine The New Factory. Some 122 projects over six years, that’s still a drop in the ocean. While in 2023 alone, 1,815 foreign investment decisions were recorded by Buisness France, the public agency responsible for promoting the French economy.

Figures, which according to the consulting firm Ey, make France the most attractive country in Europe for the fifth consecutive year, ahead of the United Kingdom and Germany.
