The safe bet

The Last of Us

Relayed in Canada by Crave since last winter, this postapocalyptic series from the American network HBO airs on a traditional channel in a French version. People who are resistant to platforms will finally understand why the critics were talking about a television event at the beginning of the year. Inspired by a video game published in 2013, this thriller in nine episodes co-written by Craig Mazin (author and creator of the moving Chernobyl) chronicles the winding journey of an unlikely duo (Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey) through a world infested with dangerous cauliflower-headed cannibal monsters. Tip: Don’t get too attached to the characters. Most rarely survive more than an hour.

Stunt performers

Quebec stuntmen enjoy an excellent international reputation. Produced by PVP Média and directed by Éli Laliberté (The survivors) and Nathalie Pelletier (Facing yourself), this nine-episode documentary series attempts to demystify their profession by focusing on the daily lives of Jean Frenette, Hélène Laliberté and Jean-François Lachapelle, three renowned stunt coordinators. In the first episode, we witness the bloody filming of a wrestling horror film in Manitoba and a sequence involving horses. In the second, we show behind the scenes of a car accident scene fromAfter the flood, a series that we could see on Noovo this fall. Note: Patrick Labbé provides the narration.

Luxury in the sun

This new series, in which designer Julie Asselin explores the Florida real estate market reserved for the ultra-rich, should be called Very great luxury in the sun. Because as soon as we visit a home equipped with a $6,000 ottoman and a type wardrobe walk-in as big as a four and a half in Rosemont, we know that we are targeting the mega-rich. Faced with so much flashy opulence, we either dream or roll our eyes, like in the first episode, when we discover the 6,000 square foot penthouse of a Miami condo tower equipped with an elevator system in glass that allows residents to take their car up to any floor, up to their apartment.

The return

Don’t lie to you

Second season of the magazine which seeks to deconstruct certain prejudices and demystify certain taboos in relation to the black communities of Quebec. Piloted by Schelby Jean-Baptiste with Keithy Antoine and Irdens Exantus, this new batch of episodes addresses a wide variety of sensitive subjects, including interracial adoption, cross-breeding, voodoo and homosexuality. The trio closes the season by discussing the word that begins with N with other Afro-descendant people, including host and columnist Vanessa Destiné and author and actress Phara Thibault. These allow the debate to progress by providing points that we have not often had the opportunity to hear in recent years.
