The novelty : Before the crash
We weren’t necessarily expecting Before the crash impatiently. The universe of investment bankers inspired us as much as a morning at Carrefour Laval. But two weeks later, we are addicted. Authors Éric Bruneau and Kim Lévesque-Lizotte depict a fascinating, hyper-competitive world populated by complex and curiously endearing protagonists despite their many flaws. Yes, some characters (teenager Florence) seem to exist only to pass messages, but still. WE love. And since we have already watched the third episode (offered first on ICI Tou.tv Extra), we are happy to announce that finally, the presto jumps between Evelyne (Karine Vanasse) and François (Émile Proulx-Cloutier).
ICI Télé, Monday at 9 p.m.
The return : Top Chef Canada
A familiar face to Quebec television viewers is trying his luck at the popular Canadian culinary competition this fall: Camilo Lapointe-Nascimento. Winner of Chiefs! in 2020, the 25-year-old Montreal chef co-founded Menu Extra, a ready-to-eat gastronomic cuisine company. Based on the candidate descriptions provided by Food Network Canada, Lapointe-Nascimento hopes that his experience at the Chiefs! will give him an advantage. It should also be noted that he works at Menu Extra with Francis Blais, winner of Top Chef Canada in 2020. In other words, all the ingredients (pun alert!) are in place to give us hope for a win.
Food Network Canada, starting Monday at 10 p.m.
The safe bet: Audrey came back
We praise the merits ofAudrey came back for nearly a year. Landed on Club illico in November 2021, this singular series written by Florence Longpré and Guillaume Lambert can finally be seen by the entire public, since it lands on Télé-Québec. The moment is well chosen; it has just been crowned best comedy at the Gémeaux awards (because indeed, trophies were awarded before and after Guillaume Lemay-Thivierge’s messy interruption on stage). Relating with sensitivity and humor the story of a woman who emerges from a coma after 15 long years, this production by Guillaume Lonergan (Can you hear me ?) marks the spirits gently, without resorting to 1001 dramatic twists.
Télé-Québec, starting Thursday at 9 p.m. (also available at telequebec.tv)
Documentary: sydney
When Oprah Winfrey produces something, we pay attention. The “media queen” has obtained the support of Sidney Poitier’s daughters to present this 106-minute documentary, which paints the portrait of the famous actor, director and activist. First black man to win the Oscar for best actor (in 1964 for Lilies of the Field), Poitier died last January of a heart attack. He was 94 years old. Directed by Reginald Hudlin (house party, Boomerang), this feature film includes interviews with several big names, including Denzel Washington, Halle Berry, Robert Redford, Lenny Kravitz, Barbra Streisand and Spike Lee.
