The novelty : Pet

Since Pet is – in part – inspired by the story of Mary Kay Letourneau, this American teacher sentenced to seven years in prison for having had sex with her underage student, it was feared a series pop corn vulgar-looking true crime. It was counting without the sensitive writing of Simon Boulerice, the delicate realization of Marie-Claude Blouin and Félix Tétreault, and the fair and nuanced acting of the main performers, Evelyne Brochu and Lévi Doré. It’s gripping, irresistibly uncomfortable at times, and (yes, yes) heartbreaking. When commercial breaks come too quickly for our liking, it’s a sign that we really like a series.

At Noovo, Wednesdays at 8 p.m. (the first episode is available for catch-up on Noovo.ca)

London prepares for the funeral of Elizabeth II

Our TV will go into royal funeral mode this Monday. The networks will broadcast the ceremony at Westminster Abbey in London. On ICI Télé and ICI RDI, Céline Galipeau will host a special program from 5 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Radio-Canada has sent four journalists on site. On the LCN side, the transmission will begin at 5:30 a.m. with Sophie Thibault at the controls. In the studio in Montreal, the anchor will be surrounded by analysts Emmanuelle Latraverse and Luc Lavoie. Specialists James Jackson and Alain Pronkin will also be present, while Richard Latendresse will take part in the meeting live from London. No continuous coverage is provided at Noovo.

At ICI Télé, ICI RDI and LCN, this Monday

The return : Infoman

PHOTO PROVIDED BY RADIO-CANADA

Jean-Rene Dufort anime Infoman.

We understand Radio-Canada for wanting to highlight in style the airing of STAT last week, by programming four episodes of an exceptional duration of one hour. Nevertheless, this programming strategy postponed the start of the season by seven days.Infoman, thus depriving us of a precious edition of the humorous rendezvous in the middle of the provincial election campaign, a period usually very inspiring for Jean-René Dufort, MC Gilles and Chantal Lamarre. Details surrounding the content of the show are being kept under wraps, but according to our sources, the “Miss Provincial Candidate” segment will be making a comeback. And everything indicates that we will be able to hear Chantal and Jean-René comment on the funeral of Elizabeth II, since the tandem flew to London during the weekend.

At ICI Télé, Thursdays at 7:30 p.m.

The essential: the Laver Cup

Roger Federer

A team tennis competition that we have been following with pleasure since 2017, the Laver Cup promises to reach unprecedented levels of emotion this year, since it will mark the swan song of one of the greatest tennis players – if not the greatest – of all time, Roger Federer. Last Thursday, the Swiss maestro indicated that he would retire at the end of the three-day tournament, which TVA will broadcast live from London, with Félix Séguin, Vincent Destouches and Frédérique Guay on the microphone. Sports fans, get your tissues out. Federer has never been good at holding back tears, either after a win or a loss. Given the context, bet it will crack a few times this weekend. We too, by the way.

On TVA Sports, starting Friday at 8 a.m.
