Every week, The Press scan the TV offering to identify four titles to watch
The special: Ellen DeGeneres: For Your Approval
Two years after the end of her daily talk show (a stormy conclusion due to allegations of a toxic work climate), Ellen DeGeneres returns to the stage to deliver a show that resembles a swan song. For an hour, and in front of a ready-made crowd who applauded her wildly at the opening, the American comedian jumped from cock to donkey between subjects (her signature style): from gardening to parallel parking, in passing through Wheel of Fortunee. And when she talks about the scandal which, according to her, marked her “dismissal from show business”, we feel that one part of her is still shaken, but that the other is in balance.

The safe bet: 100 geniuses
The show may make us feel old (no one was able to identify Mick Jagger last Thursday), but we continue to follow the exploits of the young participants with great interest, especially when we see familiar faces again, like Chloé Still, a 17-year-old “veteran”. 100 geniuses remains a safe bet, but after five seasons, allow us a little criticism: the pre-recorded exclamations of the candidates in the studio, which are left after each correct answer from the players during the bursts, must be scrapped. And when it comes to jokes, host Pierre-Yves Lord must raise his level. On the program this week: questions based around the theme of the animal kingdom.

We are curious: An Oprah Special: The Presleys – Elvis, Lisa Marie and Riley
Oprah Winfrey only comes out for special occasions. This is why this hour-long tête-à-tête with Riley Keough, Elvis Presley’s granddaughter, piques our curiosity. The family of the king of rock and roll has not been spared in recent years. His grandson Benjamin died in 2020, then Lisa Marie, his only daughter, in 2023. In extracts presented first on the internet, we can see Oprah and Riley combing Elvis’ archives and handling – with care – items that belonged to him, such as his American Express credit card and his comb. Hopefully the interview goes a little more in-depth.
CBS, Tuesday at 8 p.m.
What’s new: Our quests
Completely free and without advertisements, the Savoir Média channel is celebrating its 5e birthday this year. Among its new features, let’s mention this series of 6 15-minute episodes in which people carry out quests, with the help of specialists from the public organization Bibliothèque et Archives nationaux du Québec (BAnQ). In the first episode, we show Sylvie Schirm digging into the past of her father, the ex-felquist François Schirm, and Geneviève Gray finding out about Claire Kirkland-Casgrain, her grandmother, the first female deputy elected to the Legislative Assembly of Quebec. In the third, we follow Walter Chi-Yan Tom, who observes how Chinatown has been transformed by consulting maps of Montreal.
