A 16-year-old boy, on the run since July 21, was found and arrested in Kitchener, Ontario, on Tuesday night. He is suspected of the murder of Stevens Cantave, an influential gang member.
The Major Crimes Section of the Montreal Police Department (SPVM) has confirmed that a 16-year-old boy who escaped from a youth centre on July 21 has been found and arrested.
The suspect was actively sought by authorities and was the subject of a widely publicized wanted notice. He was arrested in the municipality of Kitchener, Ontario, by the Waterloo Regional Police Service, on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday. He is currently in custody, awaiting trial.
The teenager is accused of murdering Stevens Cantave, aka No Chance, a prominent gang member who was shot dead in the parking lot of a Montreal shopping mall last February. Considered a veteran among blue-aligned street gangs, the 42-year-old was allegedly close to Gregory Wooley and Marckens Vilme, a prominent member of the Ruffriders, a blue-aligned street gang operating in Montreal’s West Island.
The young Ontarian was initially arrested on July 18 while he was already incarcerated in Kitchener. The next day, he appeared by videoconference at the Youth Division of the Court of Quebec. Then on July 21, he managed to escape while he was being held in a youth centre near the city of Petersburg, Ontario.
