Teddy Riner enters a little further into the history of French judo. After the coronations of Shirine Boukli, Luka Mkheidze, Faïza Mokdar, Clarisse Agbegnenou and Romane Dicko, the French champion also won his gold medal in +100 kg, Sunday February 4, at the Paris Tournament, at the Accor Arena . He won in the final against the South Korean Kim Min-jong. With this eighth coronation, a record in the tournament, at the end of a final which was decided by golden score, he leaves his mark less than six months before the Olympic Games.

In front of an audience totally committed to his cause, Teddy Riner showed patience, initially showing himself to be aggressive before resisting, sometimes narrowly, the Korean’s attacks. After two penalties distributed on each side and a few seconds in the golden score, he ended up bringing it down to win.

After an easy start to the day and the first three fights passed without incident, Teddy Riner thought he would see his path stop in the semi-final, with an ippon from his opponent, the Uzbek Alisher Yusupov, finally transformed into a waza-ari after video intervention. He then managed to overthrow him, to offer himself a final fight and this historic coronation.
