The 25 edition of the Techno Parade will start from Place de Bastille in Paris, Saturday September 23. On the occasion of this anniversary, former Minister of Culture Jack Lang looks back, among other things, on the beginnings of electronic music in France.
Saturday September 23, the Techno Parade will set off from Place de Bastille in Paris. 25 years after the first edition, Jack Lang, the Minister of Culture at the time, assures: “It makes me happy that we were able […] overcoming the 1,001 obstacles that made it impossible for electronic music to be present in broad daylight. At that time, electronic music was demonized, reviled, slandered.” Christopher Lyard also contributed to setting up the first major techno gatherings in France.
A feminization of the profession
When asked about character “tribal” of techno, the producer of the label Sékence explain : “At some point, we find ourselves as a community around a single music. It’s one of the strengths of this music.” Over the years, the profession of DJ has become more feminine. “Is it difficult to be a female DJ? This is the eternal question.”says DJ and electronic music artist Maud Geffray who will be in the procession on Saturday. The latter also recalls the difference between the DJ “who is live with an audience” and a composer “which will necessarily be with a computer” his home.
