PK Subban is known for not having his tongue in his pocket and he allowed himself a new lyrical flight to defend Auston Matthews in the race for the Hart Trophy.
According to the former Montreal Canadiens defender, things are clear: no player is more useful to his team this season than the American to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

“If you think this player is replaceable, you’re crazy,” Subban said in a video posted on his X account on Wednesday. He is irreplaceable. […] This guy [Matthews] is a generational talent and good luck finding someone who does as much as he does for the Toronto Maple Leafs.”
With 52 goals in 57 games since the start of the season, number 34 is heading towards a 70+ goal campaign, which hasn’t happened since 1992-1993 when Alexander Mogilny and Teemu Selanne each sparkled in the spotlight red 76 times.
“You take away those 52 goals from the Toronto Maple Leafs, they’re no longer in the playoff picture,” continued the Norris Trophy winner in 2013. “He’s so good, so important, and that’s why he should be in the conversation concerning the player more useful to his training.
The Maple Leafs, who lost 6-2 on Tuesday to the Vegas Golden Knights, are in third place in the National League Atlantic Division with a record of 33-17-8. Matthews’ teammates will face the Arizona Coyotes on Thursday.
