Teachers gathered in Chabeuil tired of crowded classes and lack of teachers

The 2022/2023 school year has just started and the teachers are already exhausted. This Friday, September 16, teachers from colleges and high schools met at the Marc Seignobos college in Chabeuil to identify the malfunctions.

Overcrowded classes

Do not exceed 24 students per class to work in good conditions“This is what Lucie Majewski explains. Today, according to the departmental co-secretary SNES FSU Drôme, the norm is rather 28 to 30 students per class if not more. “There is a form of anger because we know our job. We know how to do it right but we can’t afford it” she adds.

During this meeting, the teachers raised each of their problems. An English teacher from the Marcel Pagnol college in Valence explains that there are sometimes not even enough chairs to seat all the students. She tells : “we are in an establishment labeled priority education zone. As such, we must have additional resources, except that there are classes with 26 students in 4th grade. Sometimes there are not even enough places to accommodate all the students. The 4th is however the most difficult level in college.

Not enough teachers

At the Dauphiné high school in Romans-sur-Isère, there was, according to Professor Régis Roussillon, a belated affection of a trainee teacher except that he must be released on Tuesday and Wednesday to follow his training. As a result, the students of the first class have two different teachers of economics and social sciences. “It’s extremely complicated and once again the teachers will have to adapt !” exasperated Régis Roussilon.

When there are new recruits, they are under water according to a mathematics teacher from Marcelle Rivier college in Beaumont les Valence. “We have a trainee Spanish teacher, except that she has to take training at the same time in Grenoble. The problem is that she is the only full-time Spanish teacher in the college..”

She’s the only full-time Spanish teacher in the college!

This year, three posts of physical education and sports teachers have been abolished according to the FSU Drôme union in Chabeuil in Nyons and Saint-Jean-en-Royans.

A week of strike at the Auguste-Bouvet vocational school

This Friday, the rector of the academy of Grenoble heard the strikers of the vocational school Auguste Bouvet de Romans. Since Monday they denounce not only the fact of working in crowded classrooms but also in aging buildings. The strikers alerted the State services to the fact that the kitchen of the students in the hotel industry should be redone ten years ago.

In addition, the SNES FSU unions are particularly concerned about the reform of the vocational high school. It aims to improve the integration and orientation of young people by meeting the labor needs of businesses. According to the union, it undermines the versatility of students who follow professional courses by sector and it would reduce the spectrum of their orientation.
