Just the day before, she was rehearsing in the stadium in Vienna, Austria. Taylor Swift was due to perform there starting Thursday, August 8, as part of the Eras Tour, her world tour event. But less than 24 hours before the start of the first show, the organizers announced on Instagram that the concerts were canceled. “With the confirmation by the authorities of a planned terrorist attack at the Ernst Happel Stadium, we have no choice but to cancel the 3 concerts”they wrote.
A few hours before the statement, Austrian police arrested two men suspected of planning an Islamist attack during the American star’s concerts. “The 19-year-old man pledged allegiance to the Islamic State. He was preparing for an attack. Chemical substances were seized at his home”explained the local police. The authorities promised to reinforce the security at the entrance of the stadium, a measure insufficient for the organizers. Some fans shared their disappointment on social networks. More than 170,000 spectators were expected at the stadium, with economic spinoffs estimated at 100 million euros.
