Taylor Swift broke her silence on November’s presidential race on Tuesday night, choosing to endorse Democratic candidate Kamala Harris as a “strong and gifted leader.”
“I did my research and I made my choice,” she wrote again, in an Instagram post shared about fifteen minutes after the debate between Mme Harris to her Republican counterpart, Donald Trump, on ABC News. [Kamala Harris] fights for the causes and rights I believe in,” we can also read.
Taylor Swift said she was prompted to make the public statement by misleading, AI-generated images of her endorsing Donald Trump. “I concluded that I needed to be very transparent about my plans for the election. The easiest way to combat misinformation is to tell the truth.”
She also said she was “impressed” by Harris’ choice of Tim Walz as her running mate and praised his “decades-long” advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights, in vitro fertilization and women’s right to control their own bodies. “I believe we can accomplish greater things in this country when we are led by calm, not chaos.”
She signed her message with her name and the epithet “childless cat lady” (childless cat lady), a thinly veiled reference to comments made by Republican running mate JD Vance. The pop star also urged her followers to cast their votes, expressing her preference for early voting.
Just thirty minutes after it was posted, Taylor Swift’s announcement had already garnered more than 2 million likes.
