New political twist in Thailand. Wednesday, July 19, thehe country’s Constitutional Court has suspended Pita Limjaroenrat, the election winner who is facing opposition from the army, from his mandate. This decision came on the same day that Parliament was to decide on the appointment of Pita as Prime Minister.
This suspension is justified by the accusation that weighs on the leader of the Move Forward party, concerning shares he owned in a television channel at the time of the electoral campaign – which is prohibited by Thai law. Elected at 42 thanks to a program of rupture, and tougher positions vis-à-vis the monarchy, Pita has always defended himself from any illegal maneuver. He notably recalled that the media in question, iTV, had not been broadcasting since 2007. However, he risked banishment from political life for twenty years.
