(Dar es Salaam) Fourteen people including six journalists were killed Tuesday in a road accident near Lake Victoria, Tanzania, said a representative of local authorities.
Among the travelers, who were on a visit with a senior official from the Mwanza region, were television and print journalists as well as regional communications officers.
“A minibus was trying to overtake another vehicle when it collided with the vehicle carrying journalists and officials,” said Gabriel Zacharia, representative of the Busega district, where the accident occurred.
Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan expressed her condolences to the families on Twitter and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.
Last week, ten people died in the sinking of a boat carrying people on their way to funerals in the Zanzibar archipelago in the Indian Ocean.
