The 20 Hours of Saturday April 1 takes you to an island in the Indian Ocean located at? wide? from Tanzania. A little treasure that a couple of French entrepreneurs have decided to offer themselves and to develop during the periods of confinement of the covid.
Off the Tanzanian coast, it appears bewitching. It is an oasis of coconut trees bordered by white sand. A French family now lives on the island for part of the year. When Xavier Marie, entrepreneur, landed for the first time a year ago, he fell in love. “We did not buy this island, we rent it to the communities that live on the island”, he says. This costs the family 30,000 euros per year for the rental of the island, to which are added four million euros for work.
A profitable project in three years
The family wants to welcome visitors to an eco-lodge, a ten-room hotel made from local materials and powered by solar energy. Xavier and his wife are among the 500 largest fortunes in France but the couple wanted to go elsewhere. “It’s in a way thanks to the covid which has upset my professional life a bit (…) so I decided to take a step back”, says Xavier. Their project will only be profitable in three years, if all goes well.
