Tania Kontoyanni takes over as head of the UDA

After a historic second round, it was finally Tania Kontoyanni who was elected to head the Union of Artists (UDA). The actress collected 51% of the vote, against 49% for her opponent Pierre-Luc Brillant.

“I campaigned on the importance of communication with members and their mobilization. This will be my top priority at the start of my mandate, ”said the new union president in a press release Friday noon, when the results were announced.

The 8,578 or so members of the UDA were able to express their choice between April 4 and 6. No less than 30% of them took advantage of it for this second round, as in the first.

A first vote took place between March 20 and 23 to choose the person who would succeed Sophie Prégent at the head of the union. Four candidates were then in the running: Tania Kontoyanni, Pierre-Luc Brillant, Michel Langevin and Sylvain Massé. But for the very first time in the history of the UDA, no candidate obtained a simple majority – that is to say 50% of the votes +1 – to win. Tania Kontoyanni and Pierre-Luc Brillant, who respectively collected 32.9% and 32.4% of the votes, thus had to face each other in a second round.

The actress Tania Kontoyanni works as much in the world of theatre, television and cinema. A graduate of the Montreal Conservatory of Dramatic Arts, she also holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Laval University. She joined the UDA board of directors in 2017 and has been a member of the management committee as treasurer since 2019.

New role for Sophie Prégent

Sophie Prégent, who had been president of the UDA for 10 years, announced last March her desire not to seek a new mandate. In interview with the Dutyshe had explained that it was time for her to pass the torch and that she did not want to “get embedded in her duties”.

She had nevertheless expressed her desire to remain on the Board of the UDA as an administrator. She was also officially elected in this role, in the actor-actress category, during the vote at the end of March.
