Tampa Bay Buccaneers | Offensive coordinator fired

(Tampa) Offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich has been fired from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Associated Press has learned from a source familiar with the matter.

This person requested anonymity because the Bucs have not made the announcement yet. The move comes three days after the Dallas Cowboys eliminated the Buccaneers and only two years after Leftwich paired up with Tom Brady to help the quarterback win a seventh Super Bowl.

Leftwich had been in the role for four seasons, joining Bruce Arians’ staff when he was hired in 2019. His star had faded this season, as the team averaged just 18.4 points per game, after amassing more than 30 in the previous two seasons.

Brady did set an NFL record with 490 completions, in addition to finishing third in passing yards behind Patrick Mahomes and Justin Herbert, but he also attempted a personal-high 756 passes due to the absence of a ground game.

Associated Press reporter Rob Maaddi contributed to this article.
