(Tampa) Baker Mayfield will continue his career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after agreeing to a three-year contract worth up to $115 million, a person with knowledge of the deal told The Associated Press Press, Sunday.
The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the deal, which includes $50 million in guaranteed money, has not yet been made official.
The Tampa Bay Times reported that Mayfield, who is 28, will earn $30 million in 2024 and $30 million in 2025, including $20 million in guaranteed money in the second year of the deal. The quarter’s salary would increase to 40 million in 2026, the daily added.
Mayfield, who played for four different teams over the past three seasons, relaunched his career in 2023 by helping the Bucs win a third consecutive National South Division title.
The first overall pick in the 2018 draft, Mayfield rushed for 4,044 yards last season and threw 28 touchdown passes. He also limited the errors, which marked his stays with the Cleveland Browns, the Carolina Panthers and the Los Angeles Rams.
The deal comes two days after the Buccaneers agreed to a two-year, $52 million deal with receiver Mike Evans that could have tested the free agent market.
