“The Israeli enemy carried out a strike with several surface-to-surface missiles” from the Israeli-annexed Golan Heights, targeting the town of Zakiya around 11:35 p.m. (4:35 p.m. ET), SANA news agency reported, citing a military source.

“The bombardment targeted a military post of the regime,” Rami Abdel Rahman, who heads the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (OSDH), based in the United Kingdom, told AFP.

It is the second time since the beginning of the month that Israel has bombed Syria, following strikes on February 9 targeting anti-aircraft batteries in response to a missile fire from Syria.

Since the beginning of the war in Syria in 2011, Israel has carried out hundreds of strikes in Syrian territory, targeting positions of Syrian regime soldiers as well as Iranian and Lebanese Hezbollah forces, which fight alongside the regime in Damascus.

The Jewish state has repeatedly said that it will not allow its enemy, Iran, to expand its influence in Syria.
